SAL06 - Foundation for the Future – Ocean Literacy and Education in Bahia Schools

THINK Global: Aligned with the global Ocean Literacy initiative driven by UNESCO, which seeks to transform society's perception, understanding, and relationship with the seas through education at all levels. ACT Local (Bahian Reality): Bahia has the longest coastline in Brazil and a very strong historical, cultural, social, and economic relationship with the ocean. However, ocean literacy is still poorly integrated into everyday school life. The State's latent need is to bring students, teachers, and communities closer to practical and theoretical knowledge about the marine and coastal environment, changing behaviors from the ground up.

Systemic Vision: How to develop innovative solutions that encourage the promotion of ocean literacy and strengthen education for ocean conservation in Bahian schools?

• Challenge 9: Skills, knowledge and technology for all.
• Challenge 10: Change humanity's relationship with the ocean.

Proposals can include digital tools, gamified educational platforms, participatory methodologies for integration with nature, or communication and art strategies that expand engagement and the dissemination of ocean culture in the state.
