GAL04 - CeylonSea Sentinel: A digital twin for sustainable Sri Lankan Fisheries

CeylonFish Sentinel is a Digital Twin that incorporates intelligence with Sri Lankan coastal and marine fisheries. It allows observation, prediction and forecast, spatial management and education and awareness for a sustainable future of the fishing industry. This web-based platform fundamentally integrates proxy socio-ecological parameters to predict the status of the fish abundance and catch, hence forecasting their potential changes during uncertainty. This tool contains features that are resourceful for researchers, policymakers and learners interested in oceans and fisheries. It is built up with an interactive dashboard with multiple data layers, specifically calibrated to Sri Lanka’s EEZ, that can be overlayed for data interpretations, a side panel that showcases the corelation between different variables, a scenario predictor that assess the abundance/catch status when other parameters change, and an educational component that tells the stories behind this data interplay and other interesting fisheries facts for young learners and the general public. This tool serves as a comprehensive platform that addresses a critical gap in Sri Lanka's data-poor fisheries sector. As the first product of its kind, it brings together multiple functionalities within a single interface, creating new opportunities for informed management, stakeholder engagement, evidence-based policy development and knowledge dissemination to support sustainable fisheries and coastal livelihoods.
