The Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) is the national public research institute responsible for ocean and atmospheric research, marine observation and fisheries monitoring in Portugal. IPMA supports the sustainable management of marine resources through scientific research, environmental monitoring and data services related to oceanography, fisheries, aquaculture and climate. The institute operates a network of marine research infrastructures and laboratories across the country, including the Aquaculture Pilot Station of Olhão (EPPO), dedicated to aquaculture research and innovation. Through its activities, IPMA contributes to scientific knowledge and evidence-based decision making for the sustainable use of marine and coastal ecosystems.
On this edition, the topics of the challenges that have been selected to participate in the Ocean Hackathon® 2026 in Olhão, have a direct relation with Aquaculture and Fisheries.
The Ocean Hackathon® local event in Olhão is part of the UPWELLING project from the Interreg Atlantic Area programme.
