          • Development of a new offshore floating gravity-based battery which stores the curtailment happening in the renewable energy generation assets in the island. A gravity based battery moves up and down large weights (moves up and stores energy, moves down and releases energy) and its capacity is proportional to the potential energy available that is why having the crazily deep bathymetry in the Canarias archipelago makes a floating solution a great and simple enough candidate for energy storage. The challenge would be to define it more including design, materials, weights (number, mass), instrumentation and potential other uses to give an offshore platform to promote synergies.

          • What the challenge owner would like to develop over 48h
          • As an early stage idea, it could be anything a simple algorithm describing at a high level how it could work, it could also be design principles to consider when taking this forward, it could also be a feasibility first approach which considers main dimensions for meaningful energy capacity...it could also be an in-depth discussion of pros and cons of this type of technology applied in the isolated islands context.
          • Which skills the challenge owner is looking for
          • I see electric engineers as essential, someone with knowledge with the electric market (ideally capacity market)
            Anyone is welcome though
