MWI VoyagePlanner — Optimize your cruise in complete safety The aim of the project is to develop a multi-criteria optimization algorithm for planning a sailing cruise over several days. The sailor indicates the spots they want to visit and their time constraints (departure/return), and the tool calculates the optimal itinerary to maximize the experience while ensuring safety and comfort. The tool will need to take into account and have access to: weather forecasts (wind, swell, changing conditions), a maritime routing API (time and feasibility between points), a database of anchorages (comfort according to exposure to the elements). The challenge is to combine dynamic weather, route optimization, user constraints, and anchorage ratings to generate a smooth, safe, and enjoyable journey. In the longer term, we want to think about ways to automatically enrich our own global database of anchorages using open data and user contributions. This project aims to have a positive impact: reducing engine use, avoiding risky anchorages, democratizing safe sailing, and promoting sustainable nautical tourism.
