The objective of this challenge would be to develop a solution that reduces the energy consumption and light pollution of ports while ensuring the safety of people and property through intelligent control of lighting systems and associated equipment. The Port of Porquerolles, a protected site located within several conservation areas and required to balance traffic safety, energy efficiency, and the preservation of nocturnal biodiversity, could be selected as the pilot site. More specifically, students choosing to take on this challenge would be asked to develop a decision-support tool (including a simulator prototype and dashboards) capable of comparing several scenarios based on energy and cost data, night-time environmental quality (ecological connectivity), and service levels (for users, boating professionals, and local businesses). The aim would be to identify an operational scenario that could be replicated in other ports.
