      • KUL09: Corallius: Autonomous Coral Planting to Facilitate Coral Restoration

          • With the increasing rate of coral bleaching that threatens the livelihood of marine life a change needs to be made to ensure the survival of various species, and we plan to be that change. A recent occurrence and one that touches close to home is the Pabuk tropical cyclone which occurred in 2019 and significantly reduced the live corals in Bidong Island, Terengganu. This is where Corallius comes into play. Corallius is an underwater drone that transport and plant coral fragments into designated restoration areas. While doing so, Corallius will also be able to collect 1) data on the temperature and pH value of the water and 2) close up images of the corals which can assist in coral identification and classification, contributing to ongoing research and future conservation efforts. Alongside this, Corallius will have an application/website will be used as a control platform for Corallius, to receive data that has been collected and as a streaming platform for revenue.
