SAL05: Plastic Tide: Innovating to Protect Traditional Coastal Communities in Salvador from Marine Pollution

Plastic pollution severely affects Enseada dos Tainheiros and other coastal areas of Salvador, compromising marine life and the livelihoods of communities such as fishermen and shellfish gatherers. The goal is to seek solutions for community engagement and promotion of the circular economy. It aligns with Challenge 1 of the Ocean Decade: Understanding and combating marine pollution, and Challenge 10: Restoring society's relationship with the ocean.

In 48 hours, I plan to develop an integrated digital platform that combines real-time monitoring of plastic pollution in Tainheiros Cove, coordinated community clean-up actions, and engagement tools to empower local residents and shellfish gatherers. The platform will use mobile technology to report and map pollution hotspots, organize volunteer efforts, and share educational content to promote sustainable practices and prevent future waste.
