RIM02: Data under pressure: deciphering changes in the Gulf of St. Lawrence / Données sous pression: décrypter les changements du golfe du Saint-Laurent

The St. Lawrence River is a vital migration route for many species, some of which travel long distances to reproduce, feed or escape hostile conditions. This challenge invites participants to highlight data on the migration of iconic species in the St. Lawrence by developing interactive or narrative tools that facilitate understanding and promote awareness among different audiences. Particular attention may be paid to using this knowledge to anticipate key events, such as the opening of certain fisheries, in relation to the seasonal presence of species. The objective is to strengthen collective knowledge of the river's migratory dynamics, while supporting sustainable management practices and awareness-raising tailored to the environmental realities of the St. Lawrence.
FR: Le fleuve Saint-Laurent constitue un axe migratoire vital pour de nombreuses espèces, dont certaines parcourent de grandes distances pour se reproduire, s’alimenter ou fuir des conditions hostiles. Ce défi invite les participants à valoriser les données sur les migrations d’espèces emblématiques du Saint-Laurent en développant des outils interactifs, ou narratifs qui facilitent leur compréhension et leur mise en avant auprès de différents publics. Une attention particulière pourra être portée à l’exploitation de ces connaissances pour anticiper des événements clés, comme l’ouverture de certaines pêches, en lien avec la présence saisonnière des espèces. L’objectif est de renforcer la connaissance collective des dynamiques migratoires du fleuve, tout en soutenant des pratiques de gestion durable et de sensibilisation adaptées aux réalités environnementales du Saint-Laurent.
