      • Ocean Hackathon®: Submit your challenge and access to data, tools and expertise of our partners
      • Experimenting and developing skills

Ocean Hackathon® is a creative and technical marathon that takes place over a weekend in 16 cities simultaneously. When registration opens in September, multi-disciplinary teams are set up for each challenge to develop the project in all its dimensions: technical, economic, communication, etc.

Depending on your profile, here are the benefits for you:

        • If you're a student or PhD: develop your project management and team leadership skills over a weekend while giving a boost to a project that's close to your heart. You'll be developing your skills and boosting your employability, as well as having an incredibly rewarding experience!
        • If you're a project owner in the incubation phase or not yet in the incubation phase, Ocean Hackathon® is a unique opportunity to accelerate your project by surrounding yourself with skills that complement your own, while being surrounded by experts who will be able to give you the right advice. So test, experiment and develop your project!
        • Are you a company with a project lying dormant in the drawer because there's a technical obstacle or you don't have the resources to develop it? Propose your challenge to assess its potential, identify interesting profiles, refine a job profile, etc.
        • You work in a laboratory/research centre: surround yourself with the skills and creativity that will take this project a big step forward!
        • You're an association: showcase the innovative potential of grassroots initiatives and put together a team that will be on hand to bring your idea to life. Over the course of a weekend, raise your profile and expand your network!

Access data, tools and expertise from our specialists

At the end of the weekend, each team will present the prototype developed and the project's value proposition. The prototype may be digital (application, website, plugin, etc.) or physical (3D model, new equipment) and must be based on the use of marine and/or maritime data.

What makes Ocean Hackathon® so special is the involvement of organisations specialising in marine and maritime data, often acquired for research or public policy purposes. Based on the proposed challenges, the partners prepare datasets that can be used in the challenges. To make it easy for all participants to find this data, it is collected in the Ocean Hackathon® data catalogue. A set of tools for integrating your data and your prototype into a web application are also available.

The coaches present throughout the weekend are a great help to the teams: they will guide you through the datasets and data portals, identify additional datasets if necessary, advise you on the feasibility of the prototype and can also give you a technical hand! They will be on site or available online.

In most cases, Ocean Hackathon® is a face-to-face event. The challenge owner must be present on site for all or part of the weekend. The choice of city is therefore important!

We're looking forward to your challenge!
