      • The Campus infrastructure of the month: The Roscoff Culture Collection (RCC), a living library of marine biodiversity

      • Charles Bachy, research engineer at the Roscoff Biological Station, whom we met during the 15th immersion event organised by the Campus mondial de la mer team, introduces us to the Roscoff Culture Collection in this interview.
      • Where can I find this infrastructure on the Portal?

        Directly here

        and also the RCC website:

        What is it used for?

The Roscoff Culture Collection (RCC) is one of Europe’s leading resources dedicated to the conservation and distribution of marine microorganisms. Hosted at the Roscoff Biological Station in Brittany and jointly managed by Sorbonne University and the CNRS, it brings together nearly 12,000 strains of marine microalgae, macroalgae, protists, bacteria and viruses.

Beyond its mission to preserve marine biodiversity, the RCC makes these biological resources available to the scientific community, thereby supporting research in marine biology, ecology and biotechnology. The collection is part of the EMBRC-France and EMBRC research infrastructures, the European network dedicated to the study of marine biological resources.

A collection serving research and innovation

In this interview, Charles presents the range of services offered by the Roscoff Culture Collection (RCC), listed in the Research Infrastructure and Equipment Portal of the Campus mondial de la mer. He also discusses the collaborations developed by his team with both public and private partners, illustrating the spirit of exchange and co-construction that drives the RCC.

From the laboratory to socio-economic stakeholders

These partnerships fully reflect the ambition of the Portal: to increase the visibility of infrastructures and platforms dedicated to marine science and technology, and to foster the emergence of new collaborations between research and innovation actors and socio-economic stakeholders.
