New on the portal: Ifremer's mechanical testing facilities
- Discover Ifremer's mechanical test benches on cables and ropes. These facilities are part of the THeoREM Research Infrastructure and are pieces of equipment of the Institute Carnot MERS (Marine Engineering Research for Smart, Sustainable and Safe Seas).
Machine d'essais sur câbles 300 kN © Peter Davies, Ifremer These machines are used to characterise the mechanical behaviour of cables and ropes in tension at break or under cyclic loads, either in traction or in bending on pulleys. The tests are carried out under controlled humidity and temperature conditions. Elongation measurements are carried out by sensor and/or image analysis. Loading sequences can be standard or based on specific spectra files.
These facilities are open to research teams and companies.
