      • Ocean Hackathon®: 1 label renewed and 2 ambassadors back in the adventure

      • One label: that of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021–2030). Two inaugural Ambassadors: Shom and Mercator Ocean International. The Call to Host is still open, and the 10th edition of Ocean Hackathon® already promises to be full of expertise.
      • Ocean Hackathon® again recognized under the Decade of Ocean Science

Ocean Hackathon® has just had its label renewed under the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021–2030), launched by the United Nations.

This international recognition highlights projects that make a tangible contribution to the goals of the “Ocean Decade”: generating scientific knowledge useful for action, strengthening the link between science and decision-making, and supporting the transition toward a sustainable, resilient, and productive ocean. These objectives perfectly align with the essence of Ocean Hackathon®, which is all about fostering innovative solutions for a more sustainable ocean.

Receiving this label underlines the relevance and ambition of our commitment to the French blue economy. It situates our initiative within a global movement bringing together researchers, companies, institutions, and territories around common challenges: maritime innovation, ecosystem resilience, development of responsible activities, and creation of sustainable value.

This labeling marks a key milestone for expanding our partnerships, increasing our international visibility, and actively contributing to the necessary transformations in the maritime sector.

The first two Ambassadors join the adventure: Shom and Mercator Ocean International

A new edition is underway, and two Ambassadors have already agreed to support the event. Ambassadors play a key role in Ocean Hackathon®: they reward the winning teams at the Grand Finale and serve on the jury. Mercator Ocean International and Shom kick off the 2026 edition.

Shom is a long-standing Ambassador of the event (since 2019), while Mercator Ocean International became one in 2023 after serving as a data partner in 2022. Beyond contributing to the Grand Finale prizes, these two Ambassadors will once again provide access to their data and mobilize highly motivated coaches to help teams bring their projects to life.

Who will be the next Ambassadors?
