Calls open for CommOCEAN 2026 conference

- The call for proposals for CommOCEAN 2026 is now open. The conference on ocean science communication will take place 2–3 September 2026 in Bergen, with an icebreaker event on 1 September, and will be fully in-person.
The theme of this edition is “Communication for and within the UN Ocean Decade: Setting Sails for 2030”, linked to the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.
Four main topics are proposed:
- the use of Artificial Intelligence and new technologies in ocean science communication;
- security, geopolitical issues, misinformation and trust in science communication;
- increasing citizen engagement and ocean literacy through communication;
- an open session for emerging topics and experimental formats.
Submissions can be made for:
- plenary presentations (max. 8 minutes);
- interactive workshops or parallel sessions (30 or 60 minutes), including short circus sessions;
- posters (A0 format).
The submission deadline is 1 May 2026, and applicants will receive a response about two weeks later. Proposals will be selected based on relevance to ocean science communication, clarity, originality, and lessons learned from communication activities.
