Problem: Autonomous vessels will constitute an important part of the maritime industry in the near future. Many countries are promoting the concept of unmanned shipping. There are many autonomous ship trials ongoing at present. However, there are no policies nor standards regulating the integration of environmental data to the navigation systems of autonomous vessels. Situation & Idea: Developing an application as a model of integration of the general environmental and spatial planning data to Autonomous Navigation Systems (ANS) would define the basic steps of a global standard of maritime traffic regulation involving the environmental concerns regarding the autonomous vessels. |
