      • LRO03 - The eco-friendly hull cleaning revolution || la révolution écologique du nettoyage de coque des bateaux

          • Our company G&G Boatwash is the exclusive distributor of ecological hull cleaning stations in France, allowing to remove fouling from boats with an eco-friendly, efficient and inexpensive method for boat owners while keeping boats afloat.

This revolution brings an alternative to antifouling paints that are harmful for the marine environment. The stations are able to clean a hull in less than 15 minutes by brushing the boats without using any chemical product. To sum up, a car wash station but for boats. The concept comes from Sweden and has been supported by the WWF as exemple in Norway and USA.

As this solution is annually less expensive and more pratical for a boat owner than the antifouling paint, we are convinced that it brings a clear added-value to boat owners. Unfortunately, only few of them are conscious of the strong pollution generated by antifouling paints.

As the first station will be installed in France during summer 2021 in Les Sables d’Olonne harbor on the Vendee Globe pontoon, we would like, through this Ocean Hackathon, to raise up sailor awareness on the negative environmental impact of antifouling paints. Our goal is to create an app to calculate how many tons of polluants will not flow into the water thanks to the surface of boat hulls washed by the stations. We intend to display the result in live on the app and on a digitalized display panel installed on each station so every sailor can see it.

Let’s work together on the marine environment protection!
