Speech by Jean Castex, Prime Minister, on the inauguration of Ifremer's headquarters in Brest. Lesbats Stephane (2021) Ifremer.

The head office was co-financed by the State and local authorities (Brittany Region, Finistère Department and Brest metropolis). It meets the highest environmental standards.
Located on the site of the Technopôle Brest-Iroise, the "Bougainville" building has housed 160 permanent Ifremer employees since autumn 2020.

During his speech, the French Prime Minister recalled that "the most advanced technologies are deployed here. And the dynamics of cooperation with the territory's major projects, such as Pôle Mer Bretane Atlantique and Campus mondial de la mer, have been strengthened as a result. This is an excellent thing, an excellent operation for Brest, for Finistère, for Brittany, for this extraordinary network of industries, laboratories and companies that cover this very dynamic region".

Furthermore, the Prime Minister stated that "beyond international competition, the oceans and seas must first and foremost be an area of cooperation and collective responsibility. Cooperation begins here between researchers and entrepreneurs, explorers and laboratory workers".

"The location in Brest [of Ifremer's head office] reinforces the ambition of blue growth driven by the Campus mondial de la mer's approach: to develop and promote our maritime scientific and industrial excellence on a national and international level," also pointed out François Cuillandre, Mayor of Brest and President of Brest Metropole.

Today, 900 out of Ifremer's 1500 people work in central Brittany, the vast majority in Plouzané.
