      • IIT Goa and 9 Campus members sign partnership agreement
      • At the first Franco-Indian Knowledge Summit in March 2018 in New Delhi, marine science and technology became a major area of cooperation between France and India.

On this occasion and on the initiative of the Naval Academy, a letter of intent was signed between the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) of Goa, Naval Group, and the World Sea Campus. Formalising the Goa-Atlantic (GOAT) project, this letter of intent laid the foundations for a programme of exchanges in teaching, research and innovation in the field of marine science and technology, and placed the Breton tip at the forefront of Franco-Indian cooperation in this field.

The GOAT project is based on a bottom-up approach: its richness and dynamism stem from the meetings between the various French and Indian players on various occasions (Sea Tech Week 2018 and delegation visits in particular), and from the cross interests that these meetings have revealed, with the support of Ms Rupal Purnima, Director of CEFIPRA (Centre Franco-Indien pour la Promotion de la Recherche Avancée - French-Indian Centre for the Promotion of Advanced Research).

This dynamism materialized on Monday 20 January 2020, with the signing in Brest of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the IIT of Goa and 9 partners of the World Sea Campus, thus formalizing an effective cooperation in the field of education and research, in the following areas :

        • marine renewable energy,
        • advanced calculation techniques, numerical modelling and mathematics,
        • combustion technologies,
        • chemistry,
        • marine biotechnology,
        • non-destructive evaluation and control,
        • the bio-environment,
        • AUVs (Autonomous Underwater Vehicles): sensors, imaging, data processing and interpretation, autonomy,
        • the acoustics,
        • physical oceanography and sensors in oceanography,
        • marine physics: ocean and climate, geophysics, hydrodynamics and ocean data science.

        Cooperation includes :

        • the development of co-operative Masters and PhD programmes,
        • exchanges of staff, bachelor, master or doctoral students, post-doctoral fellows and researchers,
        • the exchange of information for the purposes of education and research and innovation,
        • carrying out joint education and training activities,
        • carrying out joint research programmes,
        • publications and conferences.

The themes and areas of collaboration are open. We invite you to contact Manell Zakharia (Ecole Navale) for more information.

Please note that a delegation from the Indian Institute of Technology of Goa will be present at the next Sea Tech Week® organised from 12 to 16 October in Brest.
