      • A look back at Ocean Hackathon® 2019, 4th edition in Brest and 1st in "multi-site"
      • This edition brought together approximately 350 participants at 8 sites simultaneously: Brest, Champs-sur-Marne, Cherbourg, Dinan, La Rochelle, México, Sète and Toulon.

        In Brest, hosted by the IMT Atlantique, 80 participants in 11 teams worked day and night in a studious but relaxed atmosphere. To carry out their project, they were accompanied by a dozen coaches from Ifremer, Shom, IUEM, Brest Business School, IMT Atlantique, OVH, Pays de Morlaix and Technopôle Brest-Iroise.

        On Sunday afternoon, October 13, each team pitched the result of its cogitations and technical developments. All of them received a prize, but it was also necessary to choose a winner, who will go on to the final, in competition with the winners from each other city.

        "The project aims to make the nautical chart accessible and attractive to a wide audience: all ages, all disabilities and all goals.
        To do this, the map is increased:

        In a visual and tactile way

        The map is divided into layers representing the different depth zones for the maritime part. For the land part, we can add the shape of the landscape, as well as the buildings of the city of Brest. We have a relief map, which can be touched, accessible to the visually impaired, and attractive to the eye at the same time. We add 3D printed markup, we add information in a physical way. To this are added the lights of the harbour, in the form of flashing indicator lights as in reality.

        In interactivity and data

A mechanism for locating an object on the map using a camera allows the map to be interrogated on the data present there: depth, marine weather, fauna, flora, wrecks, regulations, any geographical data that we wish to highlight. We have also added an augmented reality part: a ship or a lighthouse appears in 3D on the screen of its smartphone when you film the map.

        In sound

        The answer to the question on the map can be written, but what we are interested in here will be sound. The card responds to the interrogation by voice. The answer varies according to the position of course.

        Increase it in potential uses:

        All these physical and digital map increases multiply the possible goals:

        • educational kit for schoolchildren
        • interactive installation for museums, tourist information offices
        • consultation tool for local authorities
        • etc.

        Under study:

        • The interrogation of the map using the eyes (eye tracking)
        • Projection of data on the map."

        Be there on December 12 for the grand finale, which will take place during the Campus mondial de la mer Assembly in Brest.

        Boombloom, a tool for detecting seaweed content explosions on the Breton coast.

        Pech’App carried by an Intechmer teacher-researcher: a new mobile application for fishing on foot. It allows users to fish safely (tide, weather, access, sanitation) and legally (regulatory sizes, species, areas). The user is geolocated in order to provide relevant and updated information for his needs.

        Marée Vous, an application for sustainable fishing on foot. The project consisted in creating a first moke-up of a future application dedicated to responsible fishing.
        The objective of this application is to allow fishermen on foot to obtain in a simplified and digital way all the information necessary for responsible fishing.

        La Rochelle
        Ocean Is Open: development of an autonomous environmental data collection system, in charge of measuring, recording and sharing data on the marine environment.
        The objective: to enable any legal or natural person to participate in the production of environmental data and to share them on a centralised platform.

        Algorithm for remote sensing of sargasso

        Téthys, solution for securing temporary, eco-responsible and connected anchorage areas

        Deep corail led by Ifremer: As some applications already offer it for terrestrial plant species, this program analyses and classifies, using deep-learning algorithms, the content of underwater videos in order to automatically recognize the observed coral species.
