      • BRE19 - Developing an application to optimise fertiliser spreading

          • Fertiliser application is currently based on weather data over several days. Indeed, rainfall washes the soil and does not allow good penetration of the fertiliser into the ground. Optimising fertilisation periods is an economic issue for farmers but also a societal issue for all the people living by the sea. The territory, tourism and aquaculture are highly impacted by the proliferation of green algae.

The objective of this mobile application, intended for farmers, is to combine data from Météo France for 15-day weather forecasts, current and biomass forecast data from Shom and Ifremer, as well as INRAE's knowledge of green algae production or any other algae pollution, in order to specify the optimal spreading period. These forecasts could be supported by data obtained by ESA satellites. The application will make it easier to set up the machines for spreading. The interest for farmers is economic, by optimising doses and optimising the forecast fertilisation plan. The interest for the civil society is a reduction of the production of green algae which, in the long term, will not have a negative impact on the territory and the local economy.
